VILLANOVA, PA. – The Providence College women's soccer team scored two goals in the second half to defeat Villanova, 2-0, on Sept. 22 to open its BIG EAST schedule. The game took place at Higgins Soccer Complex in Villanova, Pa.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) was unable to finish a promising opportunity for the Friars in the sixth minute to take an early lead. Casey Estey (Kensington, N.H.) received a ball on the end line on a pass from Camille Murphy (Seattle, Wash.). Estey played the ball across to McNulty while Villanova's goalkeeper, Rebecca Gartner, was out of net but McNulty's shot missed wide left from the penalty mark.
- Villanova had its best chance of taking the lead in the 43rd minute of play, as Kristen Vinciguerra took a shot from the left corner of the 18-yard box, resulting in a save for Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.).
- The Friars outshot Villanova 6-4 in the first half, while the Wildcats led in corners, 4-3.
- McNulty put the Friars in front in the 50th minute (1-0). The ball was deflected from Murphy's pass at the top of the box, where McNulty ran onto and hit a well-struck ball by Gartner.
- The goal was McNulty's team-high seventh goal of the season.
- Kayla Steeves (Needham, Mass.) contributed to the scoring just eight minutes after McNulty's goal. Steeves curled in a shot off the corner kick that lofted over the outreached Rebecca Gartner.
- Hogan tallied three saves to secure her fifth shutout of the season. Gartner notched two saves for Villanova.
- Villanova led Providence in shots (17-11) and in corner kicks (6-5).
