BOSTON, MASS. – The Providence College men's and women's cross-teams competed against nationally and regionally ranked teams at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown today (Sept. 21). The men recorded 417 points placing 14th out of 23 teams , while the women scored 257 points to place 11th out of 24 teams.

For the women's 5k race, junior Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.) finished first dominating the competitive field. From the start, Wheeler separated herself in the first 1k from the lead pack. As the race progressed, Wheeler continued to separate herself from the field and never looked back. Wheeler looking smooth and strong, captured the individual title in 17:09.7, seven seconds before the next finisher. In this race last year, Wheeler placed sixth and ran 17:12. She looks to continue to improve and be a threat on the national level. The last Friar to capture the individual title was Emily Sisson in 2013.

Sophomore Maria Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) and graduate student Regan Rome (Dalla, Pa.)  placed 28 and 36, respectively. Each look to improve upon their performances next Friday.

On the men's side, sophomore David Rosas (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.) was the first Friar to cross the line in 24:51.9. Rosas never moved out of the top 50 throughout the entire 8k. Finishing strong the last 1k, Rosas kept moving forward placing 31stoverall. Rosas placed 72ndlast year running (25:40) and looks to keep making huge improvements this season.

Juniors Liam Harris (Douglas, County Cork, Ireland) and Peter Rindfuss (Hamburg, N.Y.) placed 75 and 85, respectively.

"I am very happy with Abbey Wheeler's dominant performance today. She ran a great race." said head coach Ray Treacy. "We still have a lot to improve on within our top seven for both the men's and women's teams."

The Friars will be back in action on Friday, September 28that the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin.
