Women’s Soccer Defeats Drexel in OT, 2-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) scored just 1:38 into the first overtime to send the Providence College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Drexel on Thursday night, Sept. 13, on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.

GAME FLOW & NOTES

The Friars outshot Drexel 7-6 in the first half, both teams traded promising opportunities.
Drexel took the lead in the 35^th minute on Shaelyn McCarty's fourth goal of the season. McCarty brought the ball up the left side and finished her shot far post, past the diving Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass).
Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) netted an equalizer in the 41^st minute. McNulty was on the baseline when she played a ball across the six-yard box, the ball deflected off the back of the defender's leg and in.
McNulty almost put the Friars in front with a free kick from about 25 yards out in the 51^st minute, the ball was struck well but missed the goal by about a foot to the left.
Providence held a 13-9 shot advantage at the end of regulation, and also a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
It only took McNulty just 98 seconds into the first overtime session to give the Friars their fifth-consecutive win at home to start the season. The sophomore netted her team-leading sixth tally of the season as she lifted a perfectly placed shot over Libby Baeza's reach from 35-yards out.
The goal was McNulty's fifth strike in the last three games.
