PROVIDENCE, R.I.The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) announced today (July 27) the names of 271 Division I men's hockey and 217 women's hockey student-athletes who were selected as 2017-18 Krampade All-American Scholars.

The Providence College men's hockey program earned five All-American Scholars – Kasper Bjorkqvist, Vincent Desharnais, Robbie Hennessey, Gabe Mollot-Hill, and Brian Pinho. Also earning five All-American Scholars was the Providence College women's hockey program – Kate Friesen, Chloe Gonsalves, Clare Minnerath, Maureen Murphy, and Blair Parent.

"We are extremely proud of this group of student-athletes who have competed at the highest levels of the game on the ice and matched that performance in the classroom," said AHCA executive director Joe Bertagna. "The sport demands a great deal from these athletes so it is a great statement they make, individually and collectively, with their ability to attain this level of academic achievement."

To qualify for AHCA All-American Scholar status, student-athletes must attain a 3.60 grade-point average in each semester and appear in 40-percent of the team's games in 2017-18. A small number of waivers for the 40-percent requirement were granted for injuries and back-up goaltenders.
