CHICAGO, ILL. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to DePaul, 81-47, at McGrath-Phillips Arena in Chicago, Ill. on Feb. 4. Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Friars with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Providence shot 55-percent from the field in the first quarter and trailed by just six (19-13) after 10 minutes of action.
The Friars cut the lead to four (21-17) at the 7:39 mark of the second quarter, but DePaul used a 17-2 scoring run over the final 7:14 of the frame to take a 38-19 lead into the locker room at the half.
Williams paced all scorers in the first half with 10 points. Tanita Allen and Mart'e Grays each tallied nine points for DePaul.
The Blue Demons continued to set the pace offensively, outscoring the Friars 43-28 in the second half.
Williams was the only Friar to reach double figures in the scoring column, followed by eight points each from Jovana Nogic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Allegra Botteghi (Bologna, Italy).
Chante Stonewall led four Blue Demons in double figures with 15 points. Kelly Campbell contributed a double-double on 11 points and 10 rebounds and also dished a game-high six assists.
DePaul held a significant advantage in rebounding (51-29), including a 17-5 edge on the offensive boards.
The Friars return to Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. to begin a three-game home. Providence will host Creighton on Saturday, Feb. 10 at Noon, followed by match-ups against Butler (Feb. 16) and Xavier (Feb. 18). All three games in the stretch will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports Go.
