PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Maureen Murphy (Buffalo, N.Y.) of the Providence College women's ice hockey team was unanimously selected to the Hockey East Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team, as announced by the league on Feb. 28.
The forward finished her freshman campaign with a team-leading 28 points. She led the Friars in goals (19) and added nine assists. She also led the team in plus-minus, finishing the season at +19. Five of Murphy's goals were game-winners, while four came short-handed. Her four short-handed goals have tied for first place nationally.
Murphy put together seven multi-point performances in her 36 games played. On Jan. 13, she notched her first career hat-trick in a 6-3 win over Boston University. Her other three-point performance of the season came against UConn on Dec. 2. She scored two goals and added an assist to help the Friars to a 4-1 win.
An integral part of the offense, Murphy helped the team to a 17-13-7 overall record. Providence was 11-1-2 when the rookie scored a goal and 13-3-3 when she recorded a point.
