Providence Finishes 3-0 At Friar Holiday Classic With 77-47 Win Over La Salle

Mary Baskerville notched first collegiate double-double with 18 points and 17 rebounds.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College women's basketball team defeated La Salle, 77-47, on Dec. 21 in the final game of the Friar Holiday Classic in Providence, R.I. The Friars posted a 3-0 record in the tournament and improved to 8-4 overall. La Salle went 2-1 in tournament action and headed back to Philadelphia 3-10 overall.
Freshman forward Mary Baskerville (Enfield, Conn.) recorded the first double-double of her collegiate career with 18 points and 17 rebounds. She also added four blocked shots and two steals, while shooting 7-12 from the field.
Jovana Nogic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Kaela Webb (Pontiac, Mich.) each finished with nine points. Earlette Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) registered eight points and seven boards, while Maya Klein (Stamford, Conn.) put the exclamation point on the Friars' victory with seven points off the bench in just two minutes of action.
Providence out-rebounded La Salle, 47-33, and took advantage of 17 miscues by the Explorers and held a 20-7 advantage in points off of turnovers.
The Friars led wire-to-wire in the game, mounting a 30-point advantage with 7:25 remaining in regulation.
Providence went on an 8-0 run late in the first quarter to gain an 18-8 advantage with 1:09 left on the clock. La Salle hit a jumper with two seconds left on the clock and the Friars took an 18-10 lead into the break.
The Friars started the second quarter on a 10-2 run to gain a 28-12 advantage. The Explorers cut the deficit to 12 (28-16), but Providence closed the half with four unanswered points.
Baskerville hauled in 12 first-half rebounds, spurring Providence to a 27-18 edge on the glass. She added five points and three blocked shots. Webb led all scorers in the first half with seven points.
The Friars will open their BIG EAST Conference schedule on Saturday, Dec. 29 against No. 19/17 Marquette. Tip-off is slated for 3:00 p.m. (ET) at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee, Wis. Providence will remain on the road to face No. 20/18 De Paul at McGrath-Hillips Arena in Chicago, Ill. On Monday, Dec. 31 (3:00 p.m. ET). Both games will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports Go.
