PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College Head Coach
Nate Leaman announced on Monday (Dec. 17) that twin brothers
Matt Koopman and
Kyle Koopman will join the team for the second half of the season.
The Koopmans, 20, are natives of Marblehead, Mass and each played three seasons at Berkshire School (Sheffield, Mass.) and two seasons with the Mid-Fairfield Rangers Midget U18 program.
Matt, a 5-foot-10-inch, 178-pound forward has played the last two seasons with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL. After posting three goals and three assists in 55 games last season, Koopman averaged over a point-per-game for the Black Hawks in 2018-19 with eight goals and 17 assists in 24 games. He tallied two game-winning goals and two shorthanded goals while posting at plus-14 rating with Waterloo this season. In 82 career games at Berkshire School (2014-17), he totaled 44 goals and 51 assists. Matt will wear No. 14 with the Friars.
Kyle, a 5-foot-11-inch, 190-pound defenseman played parts of two seasons with Waterloo before joining the West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL earlier this season. With West Kelowna, Koopman amassed eight assists in 18 games. Prior to West Kelowna, he appeared in 28 total games with Waterloo over the past two seasons, totaling six assists over that span. In 84 career games at Berkshire School, he tallied six goals and 22 assists. Kyle will wear No. 16 with the Friars.
The Friars return to action on Saturday, Dec. 29 against Brown University at the Ledyard Bank Classic hosted by Dartmouth College.
