PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Five Providence College men's soccer players earned All-BIG EAST honors ahead of the BIG EAST First Round. The conference released its post-season awards on Nov. 2. Redshirt junior Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) earned First Team recognition, while redshirt seniors Colin Miller (Bel Air, Md.) and Klisman Sousa (Sal, Cape Verde) picked up Second Team honors. True freshmen Ramzi Qawasmy (Landsale, Pa.) and Gil Santos (Parede, Portugal) were named to the All-BIG EAST Freshman Team.

Mendonca started all 17 games for the Friars this season and logged 1,402 minutes in the midfield. He led the team in goals (five), points (10) and shots (37). The redshirt junior surpassed his previous career high for goals (two) and points (four) in a season. Earlier this season, Mendonca was named to the Capitol City Classic All-Tournament Team. This is Mendonca's second-career league honor, as he was selected to the All-BIG EAST Freshman Team in 2015.

Miller, the Friars' starting goalkeeper for the past three seasons, started all 17 games in net this season. He's logged 1,599 minutes and tallied eight shutouts. The eight shutouts matches his career-high for shutouts in a season, which he set during 2016. Overall, Miller holds a 0.96 goals against average and a .738 save percentage. In conference play, he led all goalkeepers in goals against average (0.63) and shutouts (six). Entering the season, Miller was tabbed Preseason BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. During the season, he earned SMU All-Tournament Team, Capitol City Classic All-Tournament Team and Capitol City Classic MVP. This is Miller's second year of league recognition, as he was a First Team selection and Goalkeeper of the Year in 2016.

Sousa started all 16 games that he played this season. He was a staple in the Friar backline that accumulated eight total shutouts. He logged 1,427 minutes and recorded one assist. His lone point of the season came on the game-winning goal against George Washington (Sept. 9). This is Sousa's second-career league honor, as he was a 2015 All-BIG EAST Freshman Team honoree.

Qawasmy logged the second-most minutes of anyone on the team this season (1,603). He started all 17 games at center back and was instrumental in the Friars' eight shutouts. The freshman totaled four shots, including one on frame. On Oct. 15, he was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, after helping Providence to a third-consecutive shutout.

Santos played in 10 games during his inaugural season for Providence, making five starts. He totaled three goals and one assist for seven points. He ranked second on the team in both goals and points. Two of Santos' three goals were game winners, helping the Friars pick up crucial league points against Butler and Marquette. The freshman striker was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (Sept. 24) after his two-goal performance at Butler and was named Freshman of the Week (Oct. 8) after his 90th minute goal against Marquette.
The third-seeded Friars host No. 6 St. John's on Saturday, Nov. 3 in the BIG EAST Tournament. The First Round game will kick-off at 7:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
