PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College volleyball fell to Seton Hall at home on Oct. 7 at Alumni Hall. With the loss the Friars are now 7-10 on the season and are 1-5 in BIG EAST play.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- The first set was a back and forth battle, with the Friars coming out on top, 25-22.
- Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) led the Friars' attack with six kills (.750 pct.), leading all players in the set.
- Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) was not far behind with five kills, recording a hitting percentage of 1.000 pct.
- Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) contributed to the Providence offense with 16 assists, to lead all players in the match.
- Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) led the Friars' defense with seven digs, to lead all players in the set.
- Barber and Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) assisted the Friars' defense tallying five digs apiece.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Root and Impellizeri led the Providence offense with six and four kills, respectively.
- Barber tallied 14 assists.
- Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded eight digs, to lead all players in the set.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Pirates edged the Friars 25-22 late in the third set.
- Providence recorded three total team blocks.
- Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Root led the Friars' offense with four kills apiece.
- Barber recorded eight assists and six digs in the third set.
- Root contributed to the Providence defense totaling six digs, respectively.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Providence took the fourth set, 25-21.
- The Friars kept the Pirates to a .158 hitting percentage.
- Providence recorded three total team blocks.
- Root, Impellizeri and Schaible all had four kills apiece.
- Barber recording 12 assists to lead all players in the set.
- Root, Taylor and Onyundo all tallied three digs, respectively.
FIFTH SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Friars dropped the fifth set, 15-10.
- Root, Impellizeri and Schaible led the Friars' offense with two kills apiece.
- Barber tallied six assists and three digs, to lead all players in the set.
MATCH NOTES:
- The Friars fell to the Pirates 3-2.
- As a team, Providence recorded 67 kills, 60 assists, 84 digs and eight total team blocks.
- Root led the Friars' offense recording 19 kills, while Impellizeri not far behind with 17 kills.
- Barber recorded a double-double with 56 assists and 17 digs.
- Root and Alderson also recorded double-doubles in the match. Root tallied 19 kills with 16 digs while Alderson had 10 kills and 16 digs.
- Taylor led the Friars on defense with 18 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars will travel to Villanova, Pa. and Washington, D.C. to face Villanova and Georgetown on Oct. 12-13.
