Friars return to action on Oct. 7 against Fairfield in Providence, R.I.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College field hockey team fell to No. 3 Connecticut in BIG EAST Conference regular-season action, 3-0, on Oct. 5 in Providence, R.I.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS & NOTES
- The Huskies tallied each of their three goals in the first half on penalty corners.
- UConn held an 8-3 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in shots on goal during the first half.
- Junior Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) took two of the Friars' three shots in the opening 35 minutes, including a good touch on the ball just in front of the cage, which was stopped by UConn's goalkeeper.
- In the second half, the Friars held firm defensively, and did not allow a goal while yielding just four shots and two penalty corners.
- With nine seconds remaining in regulation, Connecticut was awarded a penalty stroke.  Amanda Collins sent the ball to the right side of the cage, but goalkeeper Lydia Rice got a piece of the ball and it ricocheted off the post.
- UConn led the Friars in shots (12-4), shots on goal (7-2) and penalty corners (7-2).
