NEW YORK, N.Y. – With the 2018 BIG EAST Women's Soccer Championship beginning tomorrow (Oct. 28), the conference announced its annual post-season awards today. The Friars, who are the No. 6 seed, open BIG EAST Tournament First-Round action at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28 against St. John's at Belson Stadium in Queens, N.Y. Providence earned five All-BIG EAST Awards on Saturday, Oct. 27, marking the most honors from the league during a single season in program history.
Providence's
Katie Day (East Kingston, N.H.) is the second player in program history to earn All-BIG EAST First Team honors in back-to-back seasons. Catherine Zimmerman '16 was the last player to do so in 2014 and 2015. Day earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week two times this season when controlling the back line. Day started every game for the Friars this season, and she recorded two points on Oct. 7 after scoring the game-winning goal in the 72
nd minute.
Hogan led the Friars in her second year as the team's goalkeeper. She recorded a career-best nine shutouts and is one away from tying the program record for shutouts in a season. Hogan recorded a 0.69 goals-against average and 0.870 save percentage. Hogan ranked third in the BIG EAST in goals-against average (0.69), second in save percentage (0.870) and third in saves (87). Hogan was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week three times this season and was a member of the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll five times.
Kayla Steeves (Needham, Mass.), the second of three All-BIG EAST Second Team members, controlled the midfield all season long. This is the second-consecutive year Steeves has been listed on the All-BIG EAST Second Team. She tallied two goals and three assists for seven points on the season.
Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) earned her first All-BIG EAST honors as she was named to the Second Team. Last season McNulty finished strong, earning All-BIG EAST Tournament team honors. McNulty recorded 10 goals and two assists for a total of 22 points on the season. She earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week two times this year, most notably on Sept. 9 when she scored five goals in a three-game span. In the final game of the season, where a win or tie would push the team to the BIG EAST Tournament, McNulty came up clutch. The Friars were down 2-0 with 25 minutes to play before McNulty scored two goals to send them into overtime and eventually go onto win.
Hannah Morgan (Berwyn, Pa.) has seen action in 17-of-18 games as a rookie and provided stability on the back line. The senior leadership of Day and
Hailee Duserick (Canton, Mass.) helped prepare her to take the lead next season as the defense will lose two seniors. This marks the second-consecutive year a Friar has been placed on the All-Freshman Team.
All-BIG EAST Teams and major awards are voted on by the league's head coaches, who are not permitted to vote for their own players. All-BIG EAST First and Second Teams are comprised of three forwards, three midfielders, three defenders, one goalkeeper and one at-large selection. The BIG EAST All-Freshman Team recognizes the top-11 freshman vote earners. Full list of award winner below.
