GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Villanova had the wind at its back in the opening 45 minutes. The Wildcats took advantage, outshooting Providence 6-2 in the half.
- Zach Zandi was the only player for either team to record a shot on frame in the first half. His strike in the 38th minute was saved easily by Colin Miller (Bel Air, Md.).
- Providence outshot Villanova 11-1 in the second half. The Friars controlled possession and managed multiple chances.
- Despite the plethora of chances, Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) was the only one able to get a shot on frame.
- Villanova had the wind to begin the overtime period, but Providence continued pressuring. Mendonca played a ball out wide to Christopher Roman (South Glastonbury, Conn.). He then delivered a cross into the box that Matt DePerro (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) volleyed it past Carson Williams.
- The goal came at the 93:51 mark and was DePerro's second of the season. Both of his goals have been game-winners.
- The assist was Roman's first-career point. He played a season-high 59 minutes in today's match.
- Miller had to make just one save in his seventh shutout of the season. Five of the shutouts have come in BIG EAST play.
- Providence has now played six overtime games this season. The Friars hold a 3-1-2 record in extra time.
