Seton Hall led by just three after the opening 10 minutes of play (14-11). However, the Pirates used a strong second quarter to post a 10-point advantage at halftime. A 13-2 run was the catalyst for Seton Hall, as it took a 31-16 lead with 3:08 on the clock. Providence responded with a 7-2 run heading into the break.

The Friars would not go away quietly, as they battled hard to cut the Pirates' lead to seven (59-52) with 2:09 left in regulation. However, four-straight points gave Seton Hall a double-digit lead, once again, with a minute to play (63-52).
