PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to #RV/RV DePaul, 71-48, on Sunday, Jan. 7 in Providence, R.I. The Friars dropped to 8-9 overall (1-4 BIG EAST), while DePaul improved to 11-5 (3-1 BIG EAST).

DePaul got out to a 23-10 lead after one quarter of play as five of its eight made field goals came from beyond the three-point arc (5-10).

The Blue Demons extended their lead to 22 points (32-10) with 7:41 on the clock in the second quarter. The Friars used a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 15 (32-17) at the 5:06 mark, forcing a DePaul timeout. The Blue Demons then went on an 8-0 run to take a 40-17 advantage, before Providence closed the quarter with back-to-back buckets. DePaul took a 40-21 edge into the locker room at halftime.

Maddie Jolin (Rehoboth, Mass.) paced the Friars with 11 first-half points, while Ashton Millender also tallied 11 points for DePaul.

The Friars shot just 27-percent in the first half (8-30), including a 1-9 showing from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, DePaul hits 41-percent of its attempts from the floor (15-37), and was 7-16 from three-point territory.

Providence got within 14 (40-26) just 57-seconds into the third quarter with a 5-0 spurt, but it was as close as the Friars would get the rest of the way. DePaul got out to its largest lead (59-32) with 2:15 remaining in the frame and maintained control down the stretch.

Jolin finished the day with a game-high 20 points. It marked her second 20-point game of the season and fourth of her career. Ny'Dajah Jackson (Oakland, Calif.) grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. The Friars hauled in 41 boards as a team, marking the second-highest rebounding total of the year.

Mart'e Grays led DePaul with 15 points. Millender was scoreless in the second half and finished with 11. Amarah Coleman added nine points and 12 rebounds.

The Friars return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 10 against BIG EAST defending champion Marquette at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports Go.
