OMAHA, NEB. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to BIG EAST foe Creighton, 73-56, on Jan. 13 at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb. The Friars dropped to 8-11 overall (1-6 BIG EAST), while Creighton improved to 10-7 (4-3 BIG EAST).

The Bluejays got out to a double-digit lead (15-4) with 3:58 remaining in the first quarter and led 21-11 at the conclusion of the opening 10 minutes. Creighton maintained control in the second quarter, outscoring the Friars 20-10 to take a 41-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Friars shot 43.5-percent from the field (10-23) in the first half of play, but struggled against the Bluejays on the glass. Creighton held a 23-9 advantage in rebounding, including an 11-1 edge on the offensive boards. The `Jays used the rebounding edge to out-score Providence 11-0 in second-chance points.

In the third quarter, Creighton got out to a 26-point lead (52-26) with 6:33 on the clock. The Friars responded with a 15-5 run to cut the deficit to 16 (57-41) over the course of the next five minutes. The Bluejays finished the stanza with two unanswered buckets to take a 61-41 edge into the final 10 minutes.

The Friars out-scored the Bluejays in the fourth quarter, 15-12, but were unable to dig in to the deficit.

Providence finished the game shooting 50-percent from the field (24-48), while the Bluejays shot 46-percent (26-56). However, the three-point arc proved to be critical. The `Jays knocked down 13 threes, compared to just two for the Friars.

Creighton completed the game with a 32-25 advantage on the glass. Providence slowed the Bluejays efforts on the offensive glass in the second half, holding them to just two offensive boards.

Jovana Nogic (Belgrade, Serbia) paced Providence with 15 points, while freshman Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) added 11 points. It marked her fourth double-digit scoring game since joining the starting line-up vs. St. John's on Jan. 2 (five games). Ny-Asia Franklin (East Orange, N.J.) contributed eight points and a team-best five rebounds.

Audrey Faber led Creighton with 16 points. Sydney Lamberty posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists.

The Friars return to action on Friday, Jan. 19 against BIG EAST foe Xavier. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports Go.
