PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer team defeated Central Connecticut in the Friars 2017 home opener at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium (1-0). The Friars move to 1-3-0 on the season and claim their first victory of the season on their home turf. The Blue Devils move to 2-1-0 on the season.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
1st Half
- The Friars and Blue Devils remained scoreless for the duration of the first half; the Friars tallied seven shots to the Blue Devils two.
- Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.) led the Friars attack effort with an impressive 1v1 effort against CCSU's back line in the closing minutes of the first half.
2nd Half
- Providence and Central Connecticut each posted seven shots during the second 45 minutes of play.
- The Friars took the lead in the 83rd off of a header from Juliana Pellegrini (Rockville Centre, N.Y.).
HOW THE FRIARS SCORED
- Christina Klaum (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) lifted the ball over the back line of CCSU to connect with Pellegrini. Pellegrini redirected the ball past CCSU goalkeeper Rachael Debellis to score the Friars first goal of the season.
