PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's ice hockey team was defeated by the University of Connecticut, 2-1, on Sunday, Feb. 5 at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. With the loss, the Friars moved to 14-14-2 (9-9-2 HE), while the Huskies improved to 13-13-4 (8-10-2 HE).
The Huskies took a two goal lead in the second period when Catherine Crawley scored on the power play at 6:59. Reese Maccario scored at 16:13 on a two-on-one.
The Friars' scored with 2:28 remaining in regulation, Brooke Boquist (Thunder Bay, Ontario) scored on an extra-man advantage. Whitney Dove (Port Moody, Birtish Columbia) took a shot from the far point that bounced off of UConn's Annie Belanger's pad to Blair Parent (Blaine, Minn.) just outside the crease, who got another whack at it until it jumped out to Boquist to put it in.
The Friars generated offensive pressure with the extra man but were unable to score.
Madison Myers (Colcester, Vt.) made 16 saves in the game.
The Friars are back in action on Feb. 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Vermont for the final game of the Hockey East series with the Catamounts.
