Providence Defeated At No. 1 Villanova, 78-68
PHILADEPHIA, Pa - The Providence College men's basketball team (13-7, 3-5) was defeated at No. 1/2 Villanova, 78-68, (19-1, 7-1) on Saturday, Jan. 21 in Philadelphia, Pa. Rodney Bullock led the Friars with 17 points.
The Friars trailed at halftime by four points, 35-31 after shooting 46 percent from the field. Bullock and junior Emmitt Holt each had 8 points to pace the Friars. Villanova was led by Kris Jenkins and Josh Hart, who each had 10 points.
In the second half, Villanova came out charging and increased its lead to 20 points with 9:04 left in the game. The Friars cut the lead to 9 points (66-57) after they made four consecutive three's, including three by Jalen Lindsey, with 4:56 left in the game. However, the Friars were not able to get any closer in the game.
The Friars shot 22-50 (44%) from the field and 13-26 (50%) from three-point territory in the loss. Villanova was 30-58 (52%) from the field and 7-17 (41%) from three.
In addition to Bullock's 17, Kyron Cartwright and Lindsey each scored in double figures as they had 14 and 12, respectively.
Josh Hart had a game-high 25 points to lead Villanova.
Providence will return to action on Wednesday, January 25 versus BIG EAST foe St. John's in Providence at 6:30 p.m. on FS1.
