WAKEFIELD, Mass. - It was announced on Monday (Feb. 22) that Providence College men's hockey goaltender Nick Ellis was named Hockey East Defensive Player of Week for the first time this season.

Ellis (Millersville, Md.) has previously earned Hockey East Player of the Week and Hockey East Goaltender of the Month (December) accolades for his efforts this season.

In Providence's two-game sweep over the seventh-ranked Fighting Irish last weekend, Ellis turned in a tremendous effort, especially in the third period of Saturday night's contest where he stopped all 18 third period shots.

In total, Ellis turned away 54-of-57 shots over the weekend, while recording a 1.49 GAA and a .947 save percentage.

The Friars conclude their regular season slate this weekend with a home-and-home series against Massachusetts, beginning Friday night at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass.
