PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College Men's Basketball team defeated the University of Maine, 79-59, in Providence, R.I. on Tuesday, December 20. The Friars conclude their six-game consecutive home game stretch with their sixth consecutive win. PC improved to 10-2 overall and 9-0 at home on the season. The Black Bears moved to 4-8 on the season. The Friars were led by Junior Emmitt Holt (Webster, N.Y.), who posted his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Junior Jalen Lindsey (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) opened the game netting a three point shot, giving the Friars an early lead in the first minute of the half (3-0). The Friars held the Black Bears to just two points for five minutes of the first half going on a 15 point run (18-2).
Providence extended their lead to as many as 19 (9:45) in the first half, entering the locker room with a comfortable, 41-25 lead. Holt paced the Friars with eight points. The Friars were 14-29 from the field and 5-13 from three point territory. Maine was led by Wes Myers who had 11 points in the first 20 minutes of action.
The Friars increased their lead during the entirety of the second, the team led by as many as 27 points at 11:17.
Providence shot 26-62 for 41.9% from the field on the game. Maine was led by Myers with 13 points on the game.
Lindsey was the other Friar in double figures as he had 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Myers scored a team-high 13 points to lead the Black Bears.
The Friars will return to action on Friday, December 23 in Chestnut Hill, Mass. When they play Boston College in a 4:00 p.m. tip-off. The game will be broadcasted on ESPNU.
