CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Providence College Men's Basketball team was defeated by Boston College, 79-67, in the Friars' final non-conference game of season in Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Friday, Dec. 23. With the loss, the Friars fall to 10-3 on the season. The loss ends the Friars' six-game winning streak.. The Friars were led by Juniors Rodney Bullock, knocking down 23 points, and Emmitt Holt, who posted his third double-double of the season with 16 point and 11 rebounds.
Holt put the Friars ahead early (2-0), opening the game with a dunk off an assist from sophomore Isaiah Jackson (18:45). Providence was held scoreless for 4:21 as the Eagles went on an 8-0 run before junior Jalen Lindsey ended the drought with a three pointer. The Friars trailed by as many as six point in the first half, but a 13-3 run gave them the lead, 29-25, heading into the locker room.
In the first half, Providence shot 11-29 from the field and 3-10 from beyond the arc. Bullock posted nine points to lead the way for the Friars. The Eagles shot 10-29 led by A.J. Turner with nine points. The Friars had a quick start to the second half, jumping ahead to their largest lead of the game (seven points, 36-29) at the 17:21 mark. The eagles retaliated with a 25-2 run spanning nearly seven minutes giving them a comfortable lead over the Friars, 70-50, with 4:13 left in the game. The Friars fought their way back scoring 14 consecutive points and narrowing the gap to six points (70-64 with 2:09 left), but the push would not be enough to overcome the Eagles.
Providence shot 26-62 for 40.6% from the field on the game.
Boston College's Jerome Robinson led the Eagles in scoring, putting up 21 points, 19 of which came in the second half.
The Friars will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 28 as they open the BIG EAST season against Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio at 7:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on FSN/OSN.
