Washington, D.C.- The Providence College volleyball team lost to Georgetown in four sets on Oct. 7. The Friars' record is now 12-9 (0-5) while Georgetown improves to 6- 13 (2-5).
The match was tightly contested as four or less points decided three of the four sets. The Friars dropped set one 21-25 before bouncing back to take set two 25-22. The Friars then fell in set three, 19-25. The fourth needed to go into extra points before the Friars lost the set and match 24-26.
Sophomore Megan Onyundo led the Friars' attack with 15 kills. Senior Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) and freshman Cayla Veverka (Collegeville, Pa.) also had strong offensive nights, recording 12 and 10 kills respectively. Fitzgerald recorded a double-double in the match, as she also tallied 10 digs. Setting the attack was junior Chicyia Clark (Huntington Beach, Calif.) with 42 assists.
Defensive specialist Michelle Cruz led the Friars in digs with 22. Sophomore Kara Mason (Boca Raton, Fla.) also tallied 10 digs in the loss.
Georgetown was led by a 19-kill effort by Symone Speech.
The Friars next match is at Villanova on Oct. 8 at 7:00 p.m.
