NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Providence College women's volleyball team was defeated by St. John's on Oct. 28 in New York, N.Y. The Friars fall to 13-14 (1-10) while the Red Storm improve to 13-12 (4-8).
The Friars kept the first set close early until the Red Storm went on a 11 to 4 run to create separation. The Friars dropped the first set 18-25. The second set saw Providence take the Red Storm to the limit but ultimately lost the set 23-25. The Friars then took St. John's to extra points in the third set going point for point until Providence finally fell, 27-29.
Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) lead the Friars' attack, recording 12 kills in the loss. Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) also had a strong match tallying 10 kills. Chicyia Clark (Huntington Beach, Calif.) set the attack with 31 assists. Defensive specialist Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) led Providence's defensive efforts with 11 digs.
St. John's attack was led by Gaia Traballi and Julia Cast. Traballi recorded 13 kills while Cast tallied 12 kills. The attack was set by Erica Di Maulo who recorded 40 assists in the victory. The Red Storm defense was led by Amanda Sanabia who totaled 14 digs.
The Friars return to action on Oct. 29 with a match against Seton Hall. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
