PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's basketball Head Coach Ed Cooley served as an assistant coach for the 2015 USA Men's Basketball U19 World Championship Team and helped guide the squad to a 79-71 overtime win over Croatia on July 5 in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. With the win, the USA squad captured the Gold Medal after posting a 7-0 mark at the World Championship.

"This has been an amazing experience," Cooley said. "To come over here and being one of the younger teams in the championship, I'm very proud to be an American, and I couldn't be happier for our players." The tournament hosted 16 teams from across FIBA's five regions. The victory on July 5 gave USA its second consecutive title for the U19 Team, which also won the event in 2013. The last time the U.S. captured back-to-back gold medals was in 1979 and 1983.

For Cooley, it marked the second consecutive summer that he served as an assistant coach for USA Basketball. Last summer, they guided USA Basketball Men's U18 National Team at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship. The team captured the 2014 FIBA Americas Championship gold medal on June 24, 2014 with a 113-79 victory over Canada at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

As head coach at Providence College, Cooley has led the Friars to a 79-56 record overall, two consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2014 BIG EAST title. In his nine seasons as a head coach, Cooley has posted a 171-125 mark.
