PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College men's basketball coach Ed Cooley announced today (April 16) that student-athlete Ricky Council II (Durham, N.C.) signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College beginning in September 2015.
Council, a 6-foot-4-inch, 185-pound guard played for Moravian Prep in Hudson, N.C. this season where he was coached by Jeremy Ellis. At Moravian, he averaged 28.3 points per game. He had several impressive games, including a 53-point performance, which included 10 three pointers, versus The Robinson School (N.J.) in November. Council led Moravian to a 38-7 record in 2015. Prior to attending Moravian Prep, Council attended Northern High School in Durham, N.C. where he played three seasons of varsity basketball. In his senior season at Northern High School, where he was coached by Ronnie Russell, Council averaged 25 points per game. Northern High School registered a 26-3 record in 2014 and captured the Pack 6 Conferece Championship. For his efforts, Council was named 2014 Pack 6 Conference Player of the Year, District Player of the Year and First Team All-State.
"Ricky will be a great addition to our program," Cooley said. "Ricky is the type of player who can help our team from the perimeter as he is an elite shooter. He really matured and got stronger over the last year."
Council joins Alex Owens (Orlando, Fla.), Drew Edwards (Perry Hall, Md.) and Ryan Fazekas (Chesterton, Ind.) as newcomers to the Friar roster who will attend Providence College beginning in September 2015. Each of these student-athletes has signed a NLI to attend Providence College.
