NEW YORK, N.Y. - It was announced today (Feb. 17) that junior Julian Oakley (Tauranga, New Zealand) and senior Emily Sisson were both named BIG EAST Male and Female Track Athletes of the Week.
Oakley, a two-time sub-four minute miler, earned the honor for his performance at the BU Valentine Invitational on Feb. 14. With a second-place finish in the mile in a time of 3:57.22, Oakley now ranks fourth on the current NCAA leader board. His time also ranks as the 14th fastest mile ever run in New Zealand history.
Along with earning USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week on Feb. 16, Sisson also earned BIG EAST Female Track Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Millrose Games at the Armory in the Bronx, N.Y. on Feb. 14. Sisson finished fourth in the 3,000 meters in a time of 8:52.60. She also was the top American and collegian in the race, ahead of 2014 NCAA Cross Country Champion, Kate Avery. Sisson's time of 8:52.60 is the fifth fastest time in NCAA history and second fastest ever at Providence College.
Both Oakley and Sisson will be back in action on Feb. 28-Mar. 1 at the Armory in the Bronx, N.Y. for the BIG EAST Championships.
