TORONTO, Ont. - It was announced by Hockey Canada on Tuesday (Dec. 1) that Providence College sophomore defenseman Jake Walman has been invited to Canada's National Junior Team selection camp.
30 players were invited to the selection camp that will take place from Dec. 10-14 at the MasterCard Centre in Etobicoke, Ont. The camp will feature two games against a team comprised of Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) players on Dec. 12-13.
A dual citizen of Canada and the United States, Walman (Toronto, Ont.) skated for each nation's respective junior evaluation camps last summer. He will be one of 11 defensemen invited to Hockey Canada's selection camp and will join BU's Brandon Hickey as the other Hockey East representative on the squad.
Walman continues to pace all NCAA defensemen this season in multiple offensive categories including: goals (10), points (18), points per game (1.50), power play goals (5), game-winning goals (3), and shots (51). He also recorded the first hat trick by Friar defenseman since Rob Gaudreau scored three times against Brown on Dec. 2, 1991.
In total, 22 players will be selected to represent Canada at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship slated to take place from Dec. 26, 2015 through Jan. 5, 2016 in Helsinki, Finland.
