PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's basketball team defeated NJIT, 83-76, on Monday, Nov. 23 at the Dunkin' Donut Center in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 4-0, while the Highlanders moved to 3-2. Friar junior guard Kris Dunn (New London, Conn.) led the team with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists and seven steals.

Four Friars scored in double-digit figures, which produced two double-doubles. In addition to Dunn, sophomore Rodney Bullock (Hampton, Va.) also recorded a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Ben Bentil (Wilmington, Del.) scored 19 points and sophomore Jalen Lindsey (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) scored 12 points.

The first half saw five lead changes and five ties, with the Friars and Highlanders battling back-and-forth. With 7:47 left in the game, the Friars pulled ahead from a tied score of 18 with two good free throws from Dunn. From then on the Friars held the lead and finished the first half with a 10-point advantage, 37-27.

Dunn led all in scoring in the first half with 13 points and also contributed six assists and five rebounds. Bullock also added nine points and grabbed five boards. The Friars' largest lead in the first came with 4:21 left when they went up by 15 points, 33-18.

The Friars got off to a quick start in the second and increased their lead to 15 with 16:59 left in the game, 45-35. PC could never pull away from the Highlanders as they continued to battle back. NJIT got within six points twice in the last two minutes, including with 42 seconds left (79-73) but each time the Friars were able to hit their free throws and hold off the Highlanders.

NJIT was led by Damon Lynn who had a game-high 24 points. Rob Ukawuba registered 20 points as he was 6-8 from the field.
