Final Stats

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to Dartmouth, 5-2, at Lennon Family Field on Oct. 4. The Friars out-shot the Big Green, 12-9, and held an 8-2 edge in penalty corners, but were unable to match the opportunistic strikers from Dartmouth.

Dartmouth rattled off three-straight goals within the first 17 minutes of play to take a 3-0 lead. Julia Donald struck first, just 23-seconds into the match, as she forced a turnover deep in the Friars' backfield and took the goalkeeper one-on-one with a hard blast from the middle of the circle.

Donald gave the Big Green a 2-0 lead at 7:53 as she carried the ball into the top of the circle and fired a shot to the low left side of the cage, after receiving a pass from Eliza Becker. At the 16:52 mark, Rebecca Hu collected a rebound off the goalkeeper's pads and slipped the ball over the goal line.

Providence applied a great deal of offensive pressure in the last 10 minutes of the first half and it yielded a goal to make the score 3-1. Freshman Natalie Mitchell (East Norriton, Pa.) received a pass from fell freshman Emma Lucas (Naarden, Netherlands) in the middle of the circle and found the back of the cage or her first collegiate tally.

Both teams finished the half with six shots, while Providence held a 3-1 advantage in penalty corners.

In the second half, Dartmouth mounted a 5-1 lead with goals from Joanne Nazareth (43:59) and Hu (49:26). Both tallies were assisted by Becker.

At the 54:50 mark, the Friars were awarded a penalty stroke as a Big Green defender blocked a sure goal from crossing the goal line with her body. Providence could have cut the deficit to three (5-2), but Paige Duffy denied Kali Kilmer's (Wayne, Pa.) attempt with a diving save to the right.

Junior Adrienne Houle (Burlington, Ontario) eventually made it a 5-2 game as she scored her team-best fourth goal of the season on a give-and-go at the left post. Sophomore Megan Hamilton (Warrington, Pa.) was credited with the assist.

Graduate student Deidra Clymer (South Windsor, Conn.) recorded just one save in net for Providence. Duffy stopped three shots for Dartmouth.
