Field Hockey Set To Host Temple Under The Lights

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team will host BIG EAST foe Temple tonight [Friday, Oct. 16] at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE: Providence College holds a 3-11 overall record and a 1-1 mark in BIG EAST Conference play as it heads into tonight's match-up against Temple. The Friar posted a 1-1 record last weekend, which began with a 3-1 loss to Villanova (Oct. 9) and ended with a 3-2 victory over non-conference foe Quinnipiac (Oct. 11).

Junior Adrienne Houle (Burlington, Ontario) and freshman Emma Lucas (Naarden, Netherlands) lead the Friar offense with 13 points and 10 points, respectively. Houle has recorded six goals and one assist, while Lucas checks in with four goals and two assists. Senior Emily Matthews (Marshfield, Mass.) has nine points through 14 games on three goals and a career-best three assists. Sophomores Megan Hamilton (Warrington, Pa.) and Abby Thornton (West Pittston, Pa.) are tied for fourth on the team in scoring with eight points each. Both players have tallied three goals and two assists.

Graduate student Deidra Clymer (South Windsor, Conn.) has played the majority of minutes in the cage for Providence this season (628:05), and owns a 2.56 goals against average and a 0.558 save percentage. Sophomore Megan Guilbert (Morganville, N.J.) has logged 352 minutes in goal and has posted a 2.59 goals against average and a 0.711 save percentage. Clymer is 1-7 this season, while Guilbert holds a 2-4 mark.

Through 14 games, the Friars have out-shot their opponents, 182-150, and also have held a dominant advantage in penalty corners, 102-59. However, Providence is scoring just 1.71 goals per game and it has given up an average of 2.57 goals per game to its opponents.

After Friday's game vs. Temple, the Friars have three games remaining on their regular-season schedule, and each game is versus a nationally-ranked opponent. Providence will host No. 2 Connecticut (Oct. 23) and No. 8 Liberty (Oct. 25) before closing out the season on the road vs. No. 11 Old Dominion (Oct. 30).

SCOUTING TEMPLE: Temple enters tonight's game against Providence with a 3-10 overall record and an 0-1 mark in the BIG EAST. Seven of the Owls' 10 losses have come against nationally-ranked opponents, including an 8-0 defeat to No. 2 Connecticut in their only league game of the season. According to FieldHockeyCorner.com, the Owls have the 13th most difficult schedule in the nation to this point.

Three Owls have recorded double-digits in the scoring column, led by Alyssa Delp's 22 points (9g / 4a). Sarah Deck is second in scoring with 14 points on six goals and two assists, while Tricia Light owns 12 points on four goals and four assists. Sarah Keer and Rachael Mueller each have recorded seven points for Temple.

Haley Mitchell has played 920 minutes in goal for Temple this season and has posted a 3.35 goals against average and a 0.648 save percentage.
