Women's Basketball Falls to DePaul, 90-42

CHICAGO, ILL. - The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by DePaul, 90-42, in BIG EAST Conference play on Jan. 25 in Chicago, Ill. DePaul entered the game ranked No. 1 in the nation in scoring average (89.8 ppg).
DePaul held a 29-2 lead through the first 10 minutes of play, and the Blue Demons took a 49-18 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Friars were plagued by 19 first-half turnovers, and DePaul converted the miscues into 26 points.
Providence shot 42-percent (8-19) from the field in the opening half, while DePaul knocked down 18-39 attempts from the field (46-percent). Evi Iiskola led the Friars with eight points on 3-4 shooting, including 2-3 from three-point territory. Brittany Hrynko recorded 13 points, five assists and five steals for DePaul.
In the second half, Providence was out-scored 41-24. Iiskola finished as the Friars' leading scorer with 13 points on 5-6 shooting, and also collected five rebounds and one assist. Allegra Botteghi added seven points and a team-best three assists. Brianna Frias led the Friars on the boards with six.
Turnovers were the story of the game, as Providence committed a season-high 30 on the day. DePaul out-scored the Friars 40-2 in points off of turnovers.
Providence returns to action with back-to-back home games at Alumni Hall. On Friday, Jan. 30, the Friars host Butler at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, Feb. 1, Providence will host Xavier at 1:00 p.m.
