The Providence College men's soccer team defeated Holy Cross, 2-0, on Friday night at the Ray Treacy Track. Providence moves to 3-0-0 on the season, while the Crusaders drop to 0-1-1.
In the 40th minute, Providence freshman Daniel Neustadter (Mainz, Germany) chipped the ball over the Holy Cross defense to sophomore Mac Steeves (Needham Mass.), who volleyed his left-footed shot into the top right of the net. The goal marked Steeves' third goal on the season and he has now scored in each game this year.
In the 73rd minute, red-shirt junior Jeff Kilday (Marshfield, Mass.) scored his first career goal to put the Friars on top, 2-0. The goal came off of a Markus Naglestad (Kristiansand, Norway) corner kick and was headed in at the far post.
In the Friar net, red-shirt senior goalkeeper Keasel Broome (Claymont, Del.) earned his second shutout of the season and the ninth of his career. He made three saves during the match.
Overall, the Friars out-shot Holy Cross 10-6.
The Friars will conclude their weekend with an away game at Quinnipiac on Sunday, Sept. 7. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
