The Providence College men's soccer team fell to Quinnipiac, 3-1, on Sept. 7 at Quinnipiac University. Providence falls to a 3-1-0 record on the year, while the Bobcats collected their first win on the season to improve to 1-3-0.
Quinnipiac jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when Shaquille Higgins headed the ball in off of a set piece from James Greco.
The Friars answered back in the 18th minute of play. Sophomore Mac Steeves (Needham, Mass.) created a chance after forcing a turnover. His shot was saved but the turnover allowed sophomore Dominik Machado (Attleboro, Mass.) to score. The goal marked Machado's first of the season and the fourth of his career.
The Bobcats were quick to react to the equalizer. Quinnipiac's Machel Baker scored their second goal of the game at 21:49.
At the half, Quinnipiac had a 2-1 lead over Providence.
In the 57th minute, Quinnipiac extended its lead to 3-1 as James Doig scored with an assist going to Greco.
Red-shirt senior Keasel Broome (Claymont, Del.) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Friars and finished the game with two saves.
Providence returns to action on Sept. 12 when they take on Brown at the Bears' Stevenson Field. The game is scheduled to kick-off at 7:00 p.m.
