In the first half neither team was able to find the back of the net. Providence sophomore goalkeeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) registered one save to keep a scoreless period.
In the 53rd minute of play, Boston University's Ana Cuffia netted a goal in the far side of the net from outside the box, marking her second goal of the season.
The Friar offense answered. In the 63rd minute, a penalty kick was taken by junior Catherine Zimmerman (Madison, N.J.) after junior Courtney Maguire (Smithfield, R.I.) was taken down in front of the BU net. Zimmerman's penalty kick found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.
In the 88th minute, Jamie Turchi notched a goal with an assist from Cuffia off a corner kick, giving the Terriers the 2-1 lead they would hold onto.
"It was an unfortunate result because the team deserved more based on their performance against a NCAA-type of team," said Head Coach Sam Lopes. "It was a performance that shows we're headed in the right direction. I'm tremendously proud of my team."
Shea registered two saves in the Friar goal, while Terrier goalkeeper Alyssa Parisi finished the night with one save.
Providence College returns to action Sunday, Sept. 7 to take on Harvard. Opening kick-off will be at 1:00 p.m. at the Ray Treacy Track.
