PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College women's soccer team defeated Brown on Sept. 11 at the Ray Treacy Track, 1-0. Sophomore Rachel Ugolik (Hamden, Conn.) scored the lone goal for the Friars. Providence advances to 2-3-2 on the season, while Brown records 2-1-0 on the season.
In the 35th minute of play, the Friars took the lead. Ugolik notched a goal for the Friars to record her first on the season. Junior Catherine Zimmerman (Madison, N.J.) was awarded the assist.
The second half remained scoreless. Brown goalkeeper, Mallory Yant, recorded three saves on the half.
In net for Providence, sophomore Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) recorded a shutout with six saves in total. The Friars led in shots (20-12).
"The team again, put in an outstanding performance but this time the score reflects it," said Head Coach Sam Lopes. "We still have many goals out there, but it was great to see Ugolik score as she had been a force for us up top. I think it will be massive for her confidence. Equally pleased with the team's ability to earn a shutout against a team who is dangerous going forward."
The Friars will return to action at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Marist.
