The Providence College men's soccer team will host Villanova in a BIG EAST Quarterfinal match at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at the Ray Treacy Track and Field Complex. The Friars are the No. 4 seed, while the Wildcats are the No. 5 seed.

Scouting the Wildcats
Villanova enters Tuesday's game as the No. 5 seed for the BIG EAST Tournament. The Wildcats finished BIG EAST regular-season play with a loss versus then 11th-ranked Georgetown on Nov. 7 and are now 8-7-3 (3-4-2 BIG EAST) on the season.
Aaron Dennis leads the Wildcats in points with 14, while Dennis and Hayden Harr are tied as Villanova's top goal-scorers with six each. Will Steiner has been in goal for all of the Wildcats' 18 games, registering 83 saves and seven shutouts on the season.
Providence and Villanova in BIG EAST Tournament Play
Tuesday's game will mark the fifth meeting in the BIG EAST Tournament between the Friars and the Wildcats. Providence has a 4-0 record against Villanova in the BIG EAST Tournament. In 2008, 2009 and 2010, the Friars defeated the Wildcats 2-1, 2-1 and 3-0, respectively, in the first round of the Tournament and in 1984, Providence advanced to the Championship game after defeating Villanova, 2-0, in the semifinals.

Like the 2013 season, Providence enters the BIG EAST Tournament as the No. 4 seed. A win against the Wildcats on Tuesday would send Providence to PPL Park in Philadelphia, Pa. for a semifinal game against first-seeded Creighton (Nov. 14).
Providence's BIG EAST Tournament History
Out of the last 12 seasons, Providence has clinched a berth in the BIG EAST Tournament 10 times. Last season, the Friars made a run to the BIG EAST Championship game, falling to Marquette 3-2. It was Providence's third appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament Championship game. The other championship appearances include 2010 when the Friars played to a 2-2 tie versus Louisville (the game was decided in PK's with Louisville beating Providence 3-2) and 1984 when the Friars fell to Connecticut, 1-0.
All-time, Providence has made 14 BIG EAST Tournament appearances since 1983. The Friars are 11-11-5 all-time in BIG EAST Tournament play.
BIG EAST Playoff Picture
The top-six teams at the end of regular season play earned BIG EAST Tournament playoff bids. The top-two teams, No. 1 Creighton and No. 2 Xavier, earned byes to the semifinals. Georgetown, as the third-seeded team, will host sixth-seeded Marquette at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11, while fourth-seeded Providence will host No. 5 Villanova that same day at 7:00 p.m. in quarterfinal matches.
The semifinals and championship game of the BIG EAST Tournament will be held at PPL Park, Philadelphia, Pa. On Friday, Nov. 14, semifinals will get underway, followed by the BIG EAST Championship game on Sunday, Nov. 16.
This Time Last Year
On Nov. 12, 2013 Providence defeated Creighton, 2-1, in a home BIG EAST Quarterfinal match to advance to the BIG EAST semifinals. The Friars then reached their third BIG EAST final in program history.
Last Time Out
Providence suffered a 3-0 loss at then sixth-ranked Creighton in Omaha, Neb. on Nov. 7 to determine the BIG EAST regular season title. With the win, Creighton captured the BIG EAST regular season title and Providence secured the No. 4 seed heading into BIG EAST Tournament play. The Friars moved to 10-4-2 (5-2-2 BIG EAST) on the season.
Providence vs. Ranked Opponents
The Friars are 1-1-1 against ranked opponents this season (all of which happen to be road games), including a 2-0 win at then No. 3 Georgetown (Oct. 15), a 1-1 tie at then 15th-ranked Marquette (Oct. 22) and a 3-0 loss at No. 6 Creighton on Nov. 7.
Midseason Unbeaten Streak
Prior to Nov. 2, the Friars were on a nine-game unbeaten streak (7-0-2). Providence then suffered a 2-0 loss in Indianapolis, Ind. against Butler on Nov. 2, snapping the unbeaten streak. Since the Providence men's soccer program began in 1968, there have only been five unbeaten streaks of 10 or more games; 1970 (10 game unbeaten streak), 1972 (10 game unbeaten streak), 1983 (12 game unbeaten streak), 1984 (12 game unbeaten streak) and 2010 (10 game unbeaten streak).
The Mac Attack
Mac Steeves has scored a goal in eight of the 16 games played thus far. Dating back to last season, Steeves has scored 11 goals in the last 23 games. Over the last two seasons, Providence also has a 10-1-0 record when Steeves scores a goal.
Broome Posts 12th Career Shutout
After the 3-0 shutout on the road against Seton Hall on Oct. 25, Friar goalkeeper Keasel Broome recorded his fifth shutout of the season. The game also marked his 12th career shutout in a total of 52 games. His four other shutouts this season came in a 2-0 win versus Bryant (8/29), a 2-0 win versus Holy Cross (9/5), a 0-0 tie versus Xavier (10/4) and a 2-0 win at then third-ranked Georgetown (10/15).
In The Polls
As of Nov. 4, the Providence College men's soccer team was ranked 14th by Soccer America and 19th the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA). The Friars jumped into the polls for the first time this season on Oct. 21 with a No. 10/23 (Soccer America/NSCAA) ranking. Following its No. 10/23 ranking Providence moved up in the polls. On Oct. 28, the Friars were ranked 8th/11th (Soccer America/NSCAA), marking the first time since Nov. 16 2010 that the team had been ranked among the top-20 teams in the nation (19th/20th).
Overtime With Craig Stewart
Over the last three years, under head coach Craig Stewart, the Friars have headed into overtime a total of 17 times combining for an overtime record of 5-3-9. Two of those overtime games occurred in conference and NCAA Tournament play.
Naglestad Sets NCAA Record
Red-shirt senior Markus Naglestad helped secure a victory over in-state rival Rhode Island on Aug. 30 after he scored four of the five Friar goals. Three of the four goals came within two minutes of each other (75:11, 76:07 and 77:11), breaking the NCAA Division I men's soccer record for the fastest three consecutive goals by the same player. The record was set on Oct. 20, 1985 by John Stone of SIU Edwardsville after he scored three goals within 2:15 of each other. For his efforts, Naglestad was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 1).
