Prior to the start of the match seniors Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.), Colleen McCollom (Indian Head Park, Ill.), Elizabeth Hoyt (San Luis Obispo, Calif.), Kelly Ashmore (St. Louis, Mo.) and Annie Russian (Round Rock, Texas) were honored.
Providence captured the first set, 25-18, to take a quick advantage. Johnson had a set-best four kills for the Friars while sophomore Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) led the defense with seven digs.
Johnson kept rolling and powered the Friars to a 25-18 second set win with seven kills. Junior Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) added 16 assists.
The Friars closed out the match by edging Georgetown, 25-22, in the third set. Johnson recorded 11 kills in the frame while Wiesler contributed 14 assists.
Providence also was led by freshman Abbie Trzeciak (Cranberry Township, Pa.) and senior Annie Russian who tallied eight and seven kills, respectively. Wiesler finished the afternoon with 40 assists while Cruz ended the match with a match-high 16 digs.
Georgetown was led by Alex Johnson who had 11 kills. Casey Speer registered 25 assists while Emily Gisolfi added 11 digs.
Next up, the Friars close out the 2014 season with road matches at Butler on Friday, Nov. 21 and at Xavier on Saturday, Nov. 22. The Butler contest will start at 12:00 p.m. ET while the Xavier match will begin at 7:00 p.m. ET.
