Women's Hoops Falls To Richmond In Opener, 75-59

The Friars committed nine turnovers in the first 11 minutes of play and found themselves down by 12 (25-13). Richmond pushed its lead to 14 (34-20) with 5:05 to play, but the Friars cut it to 10 at the 3:39 mark. It looked as if Providence was finally settling in to a rhythm, but the Spiders closed the half with five unanswered points to take a 41-26 into halftime. The Friars committed 15 turnovers in the first half, which led to 17 points on the other end for Richmond.
The Spiders took their largest lead of the game (48-30) with 17 minutes remaining on the clock in the second half. The Friars clawed their way back and cut the lead to single digits with 6:07 to play (64-55), but it was as close as PC could get down the stretch.
Joining Harris in double figures was senior Tori Rule (Minneapolis, Minn.) and junior Evi Iiskola (Espoo, Finland). Rule netted 14 points, while Iiskola checked in with 13. Sophomore Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) dished a game-high seven assists in the Friar effort.
Providence returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 18 against cross-city rival Brown. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. and tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
