PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

The Providence College men's soccer team defeated DePaul, 2-1, at the Ray Treacy Track and Field Complex on Wednesday night (Oct. 29). With the victory, the Friars extended their unbeaten streak to nine games (7-0-2) and clinched a berth in the 2014 BIG EAST Tournament.

Prior to the game, Providence recognized the nine members of the 2015 graduating class as part of Senior Day.

The Friars got out to 1-0 lead at 25:06. Senior Phil Towler (Cumbria, England) found the back of the net off of a Julian Gressel (Neustaadt an der Aisch, Germany) corner kick. Towler's goal marked his first of the season.

Just over a minute after Towler's goal, sophomore Dominik Machado (Attleboro, Mass.) headed in a cross at 26:09 from Fabio Machado (Santa Catarina, Brazil), making the score 2-0. The goal marked Dominik Machado's second of the season and it was Fabio Machado's seventh assist.

At the half, the Friars held the advantage in shots, 10-3, for a 2-0 lead over the Blue Demons.

At 55:27, DePaul's Jalen Harvey responded by scoring a goal off of a Simon Megally corner kick to bring the score to 2-1.

The Friars went on to post the 2-1 win while outshooting DePaul 17-6 on the night.

In net for Providence, red-shirt senior Keasel Broome (Claymont, Del.) registered two saves, while the Blue Demon goalkeeper, Mack Robinson, registered six.

With the win the Friars move to 10-2-2 (5-0-2 BIG EAST) and clinched a berth to the BIG EAST Tournament. First round matches will be held at campus sites with the exception of the number one and two ranked teams, who will each have a bye. The BIG EAST Tournament semifinals and championship game will be played at PPL Park, Philadelphia, Pa. on Nov. 14 and 16.

The Friars are back in action at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2 when they travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to face Butler.
