PROVIDENCE, R. I. - The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Maine on Saturday, Oct. 25 in Providence, R.I. The men's team fell by 146-129 while the women were defeated 163-115.
On the women's team, freshman
Katherine Fallon (Warren, N.J.) earned two first-place finishes in the 400m freestyle (4:30.12) and the 800m freestyle (9:24.91). She placed second in the 200m freestyle (2:08.77). In the 100m backstroke, senior
Moira James (Olney, Md.) found victory in first place with a time of 1:09.29. Junior
Reilly O'Connell (West Barnstable, Mass.) placed first in the 100m freestyle (1:00.85), while sophomore
Helen Smith (Belmont, Mass.) took first in the 200m backstroke. Freshman
Meghan O'Connor (Windham, N.H.) earned a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament in the 100 butterfly event, while freshman
Kristen Noonan (Garden City, N.Y.) also qualified in the 200 backstroke.
On the men's side, senior
John Fatigati (Mahwah, N.J.) took first place in the 200m butterfly (2:11.51) and the 200m IM (2:11.94). He came in second in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:09.01, setting a school record. Sophomore
Zachary Begnaud (Natchitoches, La.) also recorded two first-place finishes, in the 800m freestyle (8:58.69) and the 400m freestyle (4:25.24). Freshman
Charles Sabaitis (Spring Lake, N. J.) earned first place in the 50m freestyle (24.93) and freshman
Michael Palmiere (Gaithersburg, Md.) took first in the 100m butterfly (1:00.56). Sophomore
Jordan Frielingsdorf (Hauppauge, N.Y.) earned first place in the 1m diving event with 208.72 points.
The Friars next meet will take place in South Orange, N.J. where they compete against the Seton Hall Pirates on Sat., November 1 at 1:00 p.m.
