PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Bryant University on Friday, Oct. 24 at their first home meet of the season. The men's team fell 176-104 while the women were defeated 174-106.
Freshman
Katherine Fallon (Warren, N.J.) led the women's team with three first-place finishes in the 800m freestyle (9:18.72), the 200m freestyle (2:07.44), and the 400m freestyle (4:31.84). At her first home collegiate race, Fallon set a school record in the 200m freestyle. Freshman
Bridget Reilly (Bronxville, N.Y.) took second place in the 800m freestyle with a time of 9:41.87. Senior
Leia Federiconi (Williamsville, N.Y.) earned two second-place finishes in the 100m breaststroke (1:16.24) and the 200m breaststroke (2:52.05) and a third-place finish in the 200m IM (2:32.31). Sophomore
Helen Smith (Belmont, Mass.) set a school record in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:20.81. She also placed second in the 200m butterfly (2:28.62) and third in the 100m butterfly (1:08.28). Sophomore
Sarah Burrous (Methuen, Mass.) took first place in the 1m diving event with 181.65 points, while freshman
Kendall Jerzyk earned second with 176.02 points.
On the men's side, senior
John Fatigati (Mahwah, N.J.) earned first place in the 100m backstroke (1:00.89) and the 200m backstroke (2:11.72) and took second place in the 200m IM (2:11.22). Sophomore
Zachary Begnaud (Natchitoches, La.) recorded a first place finish in the 800m freestyle (8:55.32) and second place in the 400m freestyle (4:26.67). Senior
Justin Tse (Framingham, Mass.) took first place in the 100m freestyle (54.49), second in the 200m freestyle (1:58.81), and third in the 50m freestyle (24.65). Freshman
Connor Fabian (LaGrange Park, Ill.) earned two second-place finishes in the 100m breaststroke (1:09.73) and the 200m breaststroke (2:33.99), while freshman
Christopher Asgian (Loveland, Ohio) also earned two second-place finishes in the 200m butterfly (2:16.66) and the 100m butterfly (1:00.15).
Six members of the women's team qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament. Freshman

Angela Caputo (Longmeadow, Mass.) qualified in the 50 freestyle, while freshman
Katherine Hickey (Eden Prairie, Minn.) qualified in the 100 breaststroke. Freshman

Mary McKenna (Wethersfield, Conn.) qualified in the 100 freestyle. Three additional men qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament. Freshman
Charles Sabaitis (Spring Lake, N.J.) qualified in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Freshman
Austin McGowan (Mansfield, Mass.) qualified in the 100 backstroke and Asgian qualified in the 100 butterfly.
The Friars next meet will take place on Saturday, Oct. 25 when they take on the Maine Black Bears at Taylor Natatorium starting at 11:00 a.m.
