Women's Basketball Falls To Drexel, 62-52

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Providence College women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season to Drexel, 62-52, on Friday, November 15 in Philadelphia, Pa. Junior forward Alexis Harris (Detroit, Mich.) recorded the second double-double of her career with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Tori Rule (Minneapolis, Minn.) finished with 11 points.
Providence led by as many as 17 with 8:11 remaining in the first half (26-9). Drexel cut the Friars' lead to five (29-24) on a 15-3 scoring run, forcing a Providence time out with 59-second left. Providence turned the ball over on a traveling violation coming out of the time out, but got a stop on defense. Junior Evi Iiskola (Espoo, Finland) then completed a conventional three-point play with 18-seconds left to give the Friars a 32-24 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Friars struggled from the floor, making just 4-of-22 field goal attempts (18.2-percent). In the meantime, the Dragons got hot from the field, hitting 16 of their 35 shot attempts (45.7-percent).
Freshman Aliyah Miller (Southaven, Miss.) joined Harris and Rule in double figures with a career-high 10 points. Iiskola recorded six points and was second on the team in rebounding with eight boards.
Alexis Smith led the Dragons with 17 points, including 13 in the decisive second half. Sarah Curran tallied 12 points, while Fiona Flanagan recorded a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Providence returns to action on Monday, November 18 against Dartmouth College. The game will tip-off at 7:00 p.m. in Hanover, N.H.
