JERSEY CITY, N.J. --The Providence College volleyball team (1-4) picked up a road victory against the St. Peter's Peacocks in Jersey City, N.J. on Wednesday, August 29. The Friars picked up the win in four sets, 25-18, 25-20, 27-29 and 25-22. The third and fourth sets were tightly contested as the teams saw five and six lead changes respectfully.
Sophomore Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.) picked up her second double-double of the season collecting 15 kills and 13 digs. Classmates Anna Russian (Round Rock, Texas), Kelly Ashmore (St. Louis, Mo.) and Colleen McCollom (Indian Head Park, Ill.) helped the Friars earn the win with 11, 10 and eight kills respectfully. Russian also led all players with six blocks. Freshman Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) notched her first-career double-double, breaking the 40 assist mark for the second time this season, leading all players with 44 while garnering 10 digs. Senior Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) led the Friars with 17 digs and also picked up two assists.
The Friars will travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. to play in the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational on Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1. The Friars will play four matches over the weekend.
Providence will play its first match at home this season on Sunday, October 7 versus America East foe Stony Brook. This match will mark the first athletic event played in the renovated Mullaney Gymnasium in Alumni Hall.
