PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College men's basketball Head Coach Ed Cooley announced on May 10, 2012 that student-athlete Carson Desrosiers (Windham, N.H.) has transferred to Providence College. Desrosiers, a sophomore, is finishing his second year at Wake Forest University. Due to NCAA transfer rules, Desrosiers will be able to practice with the team in 2012-13, but will not be allowed to play in any games. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining beginning in September 2013.

Desrosiers, a 7-0, 235-pound front court player played in 62 games, including 38 as a starter, in his two seasons at Wake Forest. During that time, he averaged 4.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 41.8 percent from the field. Desrosiers also blocked 112 shots (1.8 per game) in just two seasons, which ranks 11th all-time at Wake Forest. His 60 blocks in his sophomore season ranks as the 11th highest single-season total in school history. Desrosiers ranked fourth in the ACC and 47th in the nation in blocked shots per game (1.9) in 2012. He recorded a career-best 13 points at Boston College on February 25, 2012. Desrosiers opened the 2011-12 season by nearly recording a triple-double with eight points, 10 rebounds and eight blocked shots versus Loyola on November 11.

As a freshman, Desrosiers started 22 of 31 games for the Demon Deacons, averaging 4.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 19.1 minutes per game. He recorded 52 blocks as a rookie, which is the second most ever for a Wake Forest freshman, trailing only Tim Duncan's 124 blocks in 1994.

"We are thrilled that Carson has decided to attend Providence College," Cooley said. "Carson gives us an interior presence and a skill level that I enjoy coaching."

Prior to attending Wake Forest, Desrosiers graduated from Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Mass., in 2010. He led the Red Raiders to the Massachusetts Division I state title as a sophomore in 2007-08 and as a senior in 2009-10. As a senior, he averaged 16.6 points, 13.5 rebounds and 6.5 blocks per game while shooting 52.9 percent from the floor. Following his senior season at Central Catholic, Desrosiers was ranked as the No. 9 center and the No. 41 overall prospect according to Scout.com. Rivals.com had him as the No. 10 center and No. 81 overall prospect. He was listed as a four-star prospect by both services. ESPN listed Desrosiers as the No. 5 center, the No. 64 overall prospect and top-rated recruit out of the state of New Hampshire. Desrosiers played for the Mass Rivals AAU program.

Desrosiers joins a highly ranked 2012 recruiting class of guards Kris Dunn (New London, Conn.), Ricky Ledo (Providence, R.I.), Josh Fortune (Hampton, Va.) and transfer Sidiki Johnson (New York, N.Y.). Dunn, Ledo and Fortune each signed a national letter of intent in November to attend Providence College beginning in September 2012. ESPN.com and Rivals.com rated Cooley's first recruiting class as the eighth best in the country and CBSSports.com rated the class as the ninth best in the nation, while Scout.com has it ranked No. 10. -end-
