Future Friar Kris Dunn Named ESPN High School All-American

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced on April 19 that men's basketball player Kris Dunn (New London, Conn.), who will be a freshman at Providence College starting in September 2012, has been named an ESPN High School All-American. Dunn earned Fourth-Team All-America accolades. He is the first player from Connecticut to earn the ESPN High School All-America honors since Charles Smith (Bridgeport, Conn. - Warren Harding High School) received the honor in 1984.
Dunn averaged 31.4 points per game this season while leading New London High School to a 23-3 mark. In recognition of his impressive season, he also was named Gatorade State Player of the Year and he participated in the McDonald's All-America game and the Jordan Brand Classic game.
Earlier this week it was announced that Dunn was one of 24 players who have accepted invitations to attend the 2012 USA Basketball Men's U18 National Team Training camp to be held on June 5-12 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Dunn, who is ranked as the No. 1 point guard in the nation, according to Scout.com, is ranked No. 23 overall in the class of 2012 by ESPN.com. Dunn, along with shooting guard Rick Ledo (ranked No. 21 overall by ESPN.com), help make up one of the top recruiting classes in the history of Friar basketball. ESPN.com has rated Head Coach Ed Cooley's 2012 class as the sixth best in the nation.
