NAMPA, IDAHO - Providence College senior David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) has qualified for the finals in the mile run at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
McCarthy placed second in Friday night's first qualifying heat at the Jacksons Track, crossing the line in 4:06.6 to earn an automatic berth into the finals. The top two runners in each of the two heats, plus the next two best times, qualify for the title run. McCarthy entered the weekend with the top qualifying time among the competitors with a blazing 3:55.75.
Saturday's finals are scheduled for 8:15 p.m. eastern time.
Meanwhile, the Friar women will also be represented Saturday night, as sophomore Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) will run in the finals of the 3000-meters. she enters the field as the seventh seed, courtesy a clocking of 9:06.04.
That race is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. eastern.
