Women's Basketball Drops Road Game At Delaware, 64-46

NEWARK, DEL. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Delware, 64-46, on Tuesday, November 20 in Newark, Del. The Blue Hens are currently receiving votes in the Associated Press Top-25 and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' poll.
Delaware took a 41-25 lead into halftime as All-American Elena Delle Donne recorded 15 first-half points in her season debut. Rule paced the Friars with 11 points in the opening 20 minutes. The Friars trailed by just four (21-17) before Delaware went on a 10-0 spurt to take a 31-17 lead with 4:45 left on the clock. The Blue Hens finished the half with a 10-8 advantage in the scoring column. The Friars held a 19-18 advantage on the boards, and were led by sophomore Alexis Harris (Detroit, Mich.), who grabbed five rebounds.
In the second half, Delaware outscored Providence, 23-21, to secure the victory. Providence held the Blue Hens to 32-percent shooting in the second half (10-31), but also struggled from the field in its offensive end, shooting 25.9-percent (7-27).
Rule finished with a career-high 16 points, while senior forward Brianna Edwards (Minneapolis, Minn.) narrowly missed her second double-double of the season with 13 points and nine rebounds. Harris led the Friars on the boards with a career-best 10 caroms. Providence held a 41-40 advantage in rebounding during the game.
The Friars return to action on Saturday, November 24 against Akron. The game will be played at 2:00 p.m. at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I.
