Men's Basketball 2011-12 BIG EAST Schedule Announced

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College Head Coach Ed Cooley announced the Friars' BIG EAST men's basketball 2011-12 schedule on Wednesday, August 31. The schedule is highlighted by home games against BIG EAST opponents Connecticut, Louisville and Syracuse.
The Friars will play 18 BIG EAST games this season, four of which will be televised on ESPN2 or ESPNU. The 18-game format will allow each team to play every league opponent once and three teams twice. PC's home league schedule will feature games versus Syracuse on Wednesday, January 4, Seton Hall on Saturday, January 7, Louisville on Tuesday, January 10 on ESPN2 at 7:00 p.m., Marquette on Saturday, January 21, Rutgers on Wednesday, February 1 on ESPNU at 7:00 p.m., West Virginia on Sunday, February 5, USF on Saturday, February 11, Georgetown on Saturday, February 18 and Connecticut on Tuesday, February 28.
Providence will open its BIG EAST season on the road with a game at St. John's (Carnesecca Arena), on Tuesday, December 27. PC's other league road games will be at Georgetown on Saturday, December 31 on ESPN2 at 2:00 p.m., at Syracuse on Saturday, January 14, at Pittsburgh on Wednesday, January 25, at USF (St. Pete Times Forum) on Sunday, January 29, at Villanova on Tuesday, February 7, at Cincinnati on Wednesday, February 15 on ESPNU at 9:00 p.m., at DePaul on Saturday, February 25 and at Notre Dame on Friday, March 2.
Only start times for league games televised on ESPN, ESPN 2 and ESPNU have been released today. The remainder of the game times and the full television schedule will be released at a later date.
The Friars will open their season with an exhibition contest versus Assumption on Tuesday, October 25 on the Providence College campus at Alumni Hall. The Friars' second exhibition game will take place on Saturday, November 5 versus UMass-Lowell at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
Fans can get their first glimpse of the team at the annual Late Night Madness festivities at PC's Alumni Hall on Friday, October 14. Season tickets for all home games can be purchased Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the PC Ticket Office in Alumni Hall or by calling (401) 865-GO PC.
