BLOOMINGTON, IND. - For the second consecutive spring, Providence College junior Jullian Matthews (Nelson, New Zealand) will compete with the best track and field athletes in the nation.
Running in the 1500-meters at the East Regionals Saturday, Matthews crossed with a time of 3:49.04. The effort placed him in the top five in his heat, earning an automatic berth in the final stages.
Those critical stages of competition will be held at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, June 8-11 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Matthews will now look to improve on his stellar 2010 campaign, where he advanced to the finals in Eugene, Oregon. He capped that season with a ninth place effort in the finals' preliminary heat.
